Youth protest against extrajudicial killlings

Youth groups called out the Duterte administraton to stop the rising cases of extrajudicial killings in the country.

Around 600 students marched from España to Mendiola on Wednesday to fight for a peaceful justice sytem for the country.

Kabataan Partylist Representative Sarah Elago said that the youth protest was organized to uphold human rights and dignity as the country commemorates the 44th anniversary of the declaration of Martial Law.

"Di na dapat maulit ung mga injustices na nangyari noon at dapat tayo tumindig sa mga present day horrors natin," Elago said in an interview with the Pantograph.

The partylist, together with the League of the Filipino Students, College Editors Guild of the Philippines, National Union of Students of the Philippines and Anakbayan marked September 21 as the Youth Action Day for Education, Human Rights and Peace.

The protest was also set to show the opposition of the youths to a Hero's Burial for Marcos, their stand against the increase of tuition and other school fees and to call for a stop on the extrajudicial killings among poor Filipinos.

"Gusto namin imensahe para kay Presidente at sa administrasyon na ang mga kabataan ngayon, katulad ng mga dakilang kabataan noong panahon ng Martial Law, ay handang tumindig para sa mga demokratikong karapatan at kagalingan ng bayan," Elago concluded.

Among the students who joined the protest were students from the University of Santo Tomas, Polytechnic University of the Philippines, University of the Philippines and Araullo Highschool. Different sectors nd partylists such as the First Quarter Storm Movement, Kilusang Mayo Uno, Gabriela, Kilusang Magbubukid ng Pilipinas, Anakpawis, Act Teachers Partylist, PISTON, Migrante, Health Alliance for Democracy, Bagong Alyansang Makabayan and the National Democratic Front of the Philippines were also in the protest.###
