The National University Bulldogs beat the University of Santo Tomas Growling Tigers, ending their two-game losing streak with 75-68 at the Smart Araneta Coliseum, Sunday.
NU was leading during the second quarter, 46-29, leaving UST head Coach Rodil “Boy” Sablan “emotionally-invested” after the first half of the game.
“Hindi pwedeng walang depensa, walang puso,” he emphasized.
The Bulldogs maintained a 25-point lead by the end of the third quarter but the Growling Tigers bounced back at the fourth frame, cutting the deficit to seven, 71-64; however, Marvin Lee fouled Jay Alejandro, who then shot for three, causing UST to be off-track once again.
Dropping their two-game skid, NU owed its victory to Alejandro, scoring 16, and Matt Salem with 14.
King Tiger, Louie Vigil, led his team with 17 points and 5 rebounds, with 16 points and seven boards by Jamil Sheriff.
NU now improved their standing to 3-2, UST 2-3.###
