Tropical cyclone warning signal raised in Batanes Dannah Denise V. Agustin A tropical cyclone warning signal was raised in Batanes and Babuyan Group of Islands due to typhoon Helen as of 5pm, Sunday.

The Philippine Atmospheric Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA) issued a forecast that the eye of the typhoon Helen (international name: Megi) was located at 880 kilometers East of Calayan, Cagayan as of 4pm today and raised typhoon cyclone warning signal 1 over Batanes and Babuyan Group of Islands.

According to PAGASA, Helen maintains its strength and moving West Northwest, general direction toward Batanes-Taiwan area at a speed of 22kph with maximum sustained winds of up to 140 kph near the center and rush of winds up to 175 kph.

Rains with gusty winds are expected over Batanes and Babuyan Group of Islands while cloudy skies and light to moderate rains will be experienced over the rest of Luzon, Northern Visayas, CARAGA, Northern Mindanao and Zamboanga Peninsula.

Coastal waters over Luzon will be moderate to rough and sea travel was said to be risky over the northern and eastern seaboards of Northern Luzon.

PAGASA advised the public and disaster risk reduction and management council to take precautionary actions and wait for the next weather bulletin.###
