Sr. Insp. Redentor Alumno of the Sampaloc Bureau of Fire Protection (BFP), said the fire originated from the first floor and spread throughout the building, extending to the chimney.

"Nag-start sa ground floor, tapos umakyat dun sa chimney," Alumno said.

University of Santo Tomas Security Guard Raex Viente, who was at Gate 11 when the fire started, said that he first noticed smoke coming out from the building at around 6:05 a.m.

Firemen responded at around 6:15 a.m. The fire was declared out by 6:42 a.m.

The fire only reached first alarm. No casualties or injuries have been reported.

The fire may have started from a grill located in the first floor, Alumno said.

The Wendy’s staff refused to speak on the matter.

The BFP is still investigating the cause of the fire and its damage cost.###
